I’ve never really wrote about this day in the past and why it’s significant or at least significant to me. but it’s always an emotional mind fuck of a day whenever it comes around every year. it’s even more emotional this year because it’s the first time im not in New York City on 9/11. I still don’t know how this day makes me feel. My heart is heavy though. I still suffer extreme post trauma from the attacks on September 11th. I still have flashbacks to running out of my school to see the sky completely black and wondering why. It was the first time I had seen my mom truly scared and that messed me up a lot. I watched my city crumble that day, literally and figuratively. The questions that ran through my mind that day still run through my mind now, even though I am older and always thought with age I would “understand”. But I don’t. I didn’t know why this happened, how it could happen. I questioned God, I questioned humanity and reality. I still do. But what I was able to learn from all this was how strong my city is. How even through the darkest times, my city can come together. United. And it did. And we began to rebuild, mentally, physically, and more. I am so proud to call this place my home. My thoughts are with every single New Yorker, my family, my friends, the thousands of innocent lives lost and the thousands of lives who were there to aid. Someone once wrote in the subway station that you could break our buildings but you cant break our city. It’s true. 9/11 Never Forget.
